Some Background . . .
I use 300lb
ultra-heavyweight hot press Arches or Lanaquarelle watercolor paper
for all my paintings. This has virtually the consistency of illustration
board. Until about 1995 I only used professional watercolors, the
kind in tubes. Then I discovered that certain vivid tropical hues
are better captured with acrylic paint. Since then my images have
been a mixture of the two media, acrylic and watercolor. I use the
acrylic paint exactly as I use watercolor -- with water.
I like to work
big. My paintings are generally in two sizes: either a half sheet
of watercolor paper (approx. 17"x22") or a full sheet
(22"x30"). Some originals -- like Imperial
Paradise -- are a hybrid size (in this case about 18"x24").
I price my
paintings based on their size and the amount of detail they contain.
These
things take time. I wish I were one of those people who can make
a wonderful statement with a few paint strokes, like a sumie-e
artist.
Most of my images however, are dense with characters of the flora
and fauna variety. I also painstakingly research my subject matter
to make sure every species is right for the Caribbean, or at
least
for Florida and the Bahamas. Some of images are priced a little
higher because they have received publicity in magazines
and on conservation education posters/banners.
All of the items
on this list are published works. Prices are subject to change.
